The research starts from the idea that if we lose contact with the nature that lives outside the walls we inhabit, we also lose the sense of humanity – which is greatly challenged today.
Where can we find other examples, if the human being, besides many beautiful things it can do, is also the only species capable of preparing for war?
Plants do not have a central brain: how do they manage to be different from each other and find, in a shared soil, what they need to live? How do they learn, grow, coexist, and make decisions?
The working group seeks to understand how humans could imitate the habits and attitudes of plants to cultivate dialogue or, more simply, live in peace.
After the first edition of ResidenzaLAB, the open questions are more numerous than before. However, one thing we know for sure: in Italian, pianta also means map. A plant is a map? We will therefore continue to follow its path to open a space for thought in an organic – perhaps even radical – way, because we strongly feel the need to broaden our perspective.
ResidenzaLAB is a collective and dialogical artistic project: a working group and a residency in San Costanzo (Italy), founded by artist and curator Sibylle Ciarloni, who also writes this report.
